(JT) Plants

The Joule-Thomson plant is a self-refrigeration system that utilizes the Joule-Thomson effect (named for the men who discovered it in 1854) where a drop in pressure allows gas to expand, creating a cooling effect. Our JT plants provide an additional revenue stream while removing hydrocarbon liquids and avoiding condensate formation in order to prepare gas for transmission according to pipeline specifications.

A Simple
and Economical

Unlike a standard self-refrigerated plant, our unit condenses heavy hydrocarbons out of the gas to meet required gas pipeline specifications. Excess liquids that may condense and cause problems in transmission are recovered and stored for fractionation into salable hydrocarbon components. The heavier the hydrocarbons contained in the gas, the higher the GPM value.

Faster Delivery

We keep our pre-designed and packaged JT plants in stock and ready for rapid deployment. These plants come skid-mounted and designed to be loaded and off-loaded from a flatbed truck for easy on-site installation.

Streamlined Installation

Each model is designed with three-flanged customer connections (gas inlet, gas outlet, liquid outlet), pre-piped to the edge of the skid. All units include optional methanol injection port with distributor for low temp refrigeration.

Customized Solutions

Our process engineering team will determine the optimal plant size based on the facility’s design basis operating conditions such as flow rate, pressure, temperature and composition.
